The outlook at this point is very bleak. There have been no signs of Dad or the dog. I do not know if they will continue the search beyond tomorrow and more snow is expected Friday night.

Today the searchers covered the entire length of trail that we believe Dad was hiking. They also covered all trails that connected off or were near this trail. They found no signs. The footprints that gave us so much hope yesterday turned out to be from a dog team that had been out the day before. There were 7 teams total plus two helicopters. The search was ended at sundown but will resume in force tomorrow. There will be troops from nearby Fort Bliss as well as National Guard and search and rescue teams from across two states.

From my friend an experienced hiker in the Gila's- "A mountain man I know asked me if anyone has thought to look south down to Sawyer Peak instead of North to Hillsboro Peak. Where they found Mr Sumrall's SUV is a place where you park to go in both directions.
